Just skim through the transactions by category to make sure there aren’t any glaring errors.īut, a good ol’ pencil & paper, just this one time, is best.

If you really want to just get the estimating part over with, I would go with the Mint app, since it’s free and you just need an estimate anyway. It’s also sometimes difficult to delete the duplicated ones, depending on what updates Mint has going on. HOWEVER, I’ve been using it for 4 months and there have been a lot of times when the app duplicated transactions, making the totals for each category inaccurate. If that feels too overwhelming to you, the Mint app is a free spending tracker that will categorize your spending for you. **TIP** The only way to get good estimates for the column on the left is to go through your bank records for the past 3 months. Now it’s easy to see if your household budget (which is an estimate) matches up with your actual spending! It’s very easy to find the leaks this way. At the end of each month, add up your fixed expenses and shopping from the rest of the worksheets, and put the totals in the column on the right.
